FutureBacks Power Rankings: 2010 Vol. 6

The pitching-starved Arizona Diamondbacks have some good news in the farm system, as their four hottest prospects are all pitchers at different minor league levels. Josh Collmenter and Wes Roemer are succeeding after promotions, Charles Brewer is second in the Midwest League with a 1.41 ERA, and Bryan Woodall hasn't allowed an earned run through the first two months of the season.

Reno Aces 22-29 (3rd)
Mobile BayBears 24-24 (4th)
Visalia Rawhide 24-26 (3rd)
South Bend Silver Hawks 23-28 (5th)

Although the Diamondbacks system has been struggling for a couple of weeks now, several individual performances are opening eyes in the front office.  Roemer's strong pitching could soon land him a spot in the big leagues, and Collmenter is not far behind.  Brewer was passed over for a promotion to Visalia earlier this month, but that was more of an organizational decision not to deplete the Silver Hawks of all of their best players.  Woodall has been particularly impressive by dominating in a hitter's league, although he has proven mortal this week by surrendering three unearned runs.

Hot position players in the system are harder to find, but Ollie Linton and Paul Goldschmidt certainly fit the bill.  Linton has reached base in 42% of his plate appearances, and could be the prototypical leadoff hitter the D-backs need once he learns the finer points of base stealing.  Goldschmidt would be just another big thumper in Arizona's lineup, but might have a clear path to the bigs with Brandon Allen struggling in Reno and Adam LaRoche eligible for free agency at season's end.  The big Texan leads the farm system with a .537 slugging average.

Remember, the following rankings chronicle the hottest organizational prospects who are making the most of their opportunity by performing well.  They are not necessarily the best prospects in the system overall.
