Aces Squash Bees 11-1 in Inaugural Home Game

A sellout crowd of 9,167 witnessed history Friday night as the Reno Aces played their first ever home game at Aces Ballpark. Ten different Aces players contributed with base knocks in the 11-1 rout of the Salt Lake City Bees.

Travis Blackley, who had been successful against Salt Lake in seven previous career starts (4-2, 2.72 ERA, 2 CG, 43 IP, 30 H, 12 BB, 35 SO), continued that success last night by getting out of jams and allowing just one run in 4 2/3 innings.

Josh Ellis, who was battered in his previous outing, rebounded to retire all four batters he faced, two on strikeouts.  Esmerling Vasquez and Leo Rosales matched the intensity of Ellis and combined for three scoreless frames of their own.  Neither reliever has allowed a run this year.

But the real story of the home opener was the offense, to which everyone contributed.  The Aces totaled 14 hits by 10 different players.  The only Aces position player who appeared in the game and did not collect a hit was Ruben Gotay, who added two walks for the cause.

While nine different Aces scored runs in the contest, four players monopolized the runs batted in: Alexander Romero, Augie Murillo, and Rusty Ryal drove in two a piece, while Trent Oeltjen atoned for a first-inning fielding error by knocking in four.  Joshua Whitesell was the only player to score more than once, doing so three times.

The Aces scored its season-high 11 runs without the benefit of a home run; a remarkable 9-for-15 success rate with runners in scoring position kept the home team churning around the bases
