Jason Bay

According to Bill Chastain of MLB.com, the Tampa Bay Rays had an agreement to send Reid Brignac and Jeff Niemann to the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for Jason Bay. However, the deal did not go through, as Bay is being shipped to the Boston Red Sox in a three-player deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

According to Bill Chastain of MLB.com, the Tampa Bay Rays had reached an agreement to send Reid Brignac and Jeff Niemann to the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for Jason Bay. However, the report turned out to be false, as Bay is being shipped to the Boston Red Sox in a three-player deal that will send Manny Ramirez to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Rays have denied that either Brignac or Niemann were "offered" or asked about, according to the St. Petersburg Times.

The Pirates received a tremendous package from the Dodgers and Red Sox, certainly more than what they would have received from Tampa Bay. The group is highlighted by third baseman Adam LaRoche, a stud third base prospect who was blocked by the Dodgers' acquisition of Casey Blake.

More information to come.
