Abe Woody Named as All-Star Replacement

Following Reid Mahon's promotion to Triple-A on Wednesday, BayBears reliever Abe Woody was tagged to take Mahon's place on the Southern League All-Star team.

Abe Woody, who had himself been promoted to Tucson earlier this season, earns recognition for the magnificent season he has enjoyed at the Double-A level.  At the time of his selection as an All-Star replacement, Woody held a 1.17 ERA and .153 BAA even though he was 1-3.  Last year at Mobile, Woody went 8-6 with 5 saves, a 4.58 ERA, and a .302 BAA.  Those 14 decisions were third on the BayBears despite his not making a single start in 2007.

Woody's stay at Triple-A this year was not a successful one, as he allowed nearly 50 base runners to reach safely in under 20 innings of work.  That led to a 7.45 ERA for his time with the Sidewinders.

Early indications are that Reid Mahon's stay in Triple-A will fare better, as he tossed a no-hit, two-inning save in his Sidewinders debut.  Combined between the two levels, Mahon now has a sub-3.00 ERA and is a perfect 19-for-19 in save opportunities.
