FutureBacks Power Rankings: 2nd Half - Week 8

FutureBacks Power Rankings: 2nd Half - Week 8

Justin Upton's batting average has been declining steadily all week, and his strikeout totals are beginning to pile up. Maybe scouting reports on #1 overall picks travel fast. Maybe Upton isn't as good of a hitter on the road. Maybe we all jumped the gun. Whatever the reason for his decline, Justin Upton no longer ranks as our #1 prospect after reigning supreme for three weeks.

Whenever a player is called up to the majors, a chain reaction of promotions ensues.  Justin Upton's leap from Double-A to the majors meant that Aaron Cunningham replaced him on the BayBears' roster and that Gerardo Parra would ascend to Hi-A ball.  So far, Cunningham and Parra have fared better at their new assignments than Upton has, but it is important to remember that the youngest of these three players is currently playing the toughest competition.

In other news, this year's 2nd-round draft pick, Barry Enright, was just promoted to South Bend.  He has thrown a total of ten professional innings, but has not yet allowed that elusive first run of his career.  We figure it will show up sooner or later, but with a .152 batting average against and 13 strikeouts already, perhaps we should just wait and see...

Remember, these rankings chronicle the hottest organizational prospects who are making the most of their opportunity, with the heaviest weight placed on the past week of play.
