Eagles Complete Sweep

Boston College swept away any faint chances of a Mountianeer stretch run with a 15-9 win in the second game of a doubleheader at Hawley Field on Saturday.

After fighting through a 1-0 pitchers' duel in the opening contest, the Eagles and Mountaineers uncased the lumber (or aluminum) for game two. However, it was the visitors' bats that rang the loudest as Boston College rallied for a 15-9 win.

WVU appeared to be in command early. After giving up one run in the first, WVU plated six scores in the third, with the highlight being a three run bomb by Grant Psomas. However, that outburst served as only a precursor for things to come, as the Eagles scored two, three and seven runs in the next three innings to bury the Mountaineers.

After their big inning, WVU could manage only single runs in the fourth, seventh and ninth innings, which wasn't nearly enough to cut into the Eagles' lead. Casey Bowling and Stan Posluszny had solo homers to account for WVU's final two runs.

Lee Frtiz was 3-5 in the nightcap, while David Carpenter and Doug Nelms added two hits each.

The losses knocked WVU's leage record to 8-14 and eliminated any possible hopes for tournament play. The Mountaineers have five non-conference games left before closing the season with three league games agains Connecticut.
