Collins Mashes His Way Up the Ladder

Collins has been mashing for Lakeland this year

The Detroit Tigers just may have struck gold when they selected corner outfielder Tyler Collins in the sixth round of the 2011 MLB First-Year Player Draft. Despite being just one year out of junior college, Collins has shot up the organizational ladder and been a hitting machine in the process.

Fresh off an outstanding sophomore season with Howard Junior College (Texas), Collins had recently been tabbed the NJCAA Division I Player of the Year when Detroit selected him. Posting an eye-popping .488 batting average and .561 on-base percentage, Collins clubbed 34 doubles, four triples, 19 home runs and 82 RBIs for the Hawks over just 215 at-bats.
