The Arizona Diamondbacks needed to clear a position player from their 25-man roster and someone from their 40-man roster in order for Micah Owings to make a start against the Twins today. They checked both boxes by releasing Russell Branyan, who hasn't hit nearly as well in the regular season as he did this spring.
