Acquired: The White Sox traded power prospect Brandon Allen to the Arizona Diamondbacks on July 7th.
Frustration could be setting in for Tony Pena. After an extremely successful 2007 campaign, he could not win the closer's job in 2008 after Jose Valverde got traded, nor after Brandon Lyon proved ineffective. Entering 2009, Pena was behind Chad Qualls and perhaps Tom Gordon and Jon Rauch as well on the closer's totem pole.
2007 Highlights:
-
* Inherited a team-high 38 runners, allowing 10 of them to score
- * Pitched two innings in 11 of his 75 appearances, posting a 1.23 ERA in those games.
- * Held right handed batters to a .176 average; his overall BAA of .207 ranked 16th in the NL
