Biography:

2009 Cooper began the '09 season in extended spring training after setting a single-season Yakima record for walks with 66. Those walks helped bring a lowly .252 batting average all the way up to a .421 OBP. Cooper spent time in the instructional league and spring training working to improve his swing. He joined the Visalia Rawhide in late May, and if he can indeed combine a potent swing to go with his impeccable plate discipline and pitch recognition, he will rank among the system's better middle infield prospects.

2008 Cooper is a small Canadian-born shortstop out of Mt. Olive college who signed within a week of being drafted. One of Cooper's 2007 teammates, Thomas Layne, is enjoying a fantastic season as a swingman for the South Bend Silver Hawks.
