Eichhorn was a two-way player in high school, both pitching and manning shortstop. The Diamondbacks drafted him as a pitcher in the third round of the 2008 draft. His father, Mark, had an 11-year major league carrer highlighted by his rookie 1986 season in which he a went 14-6 with a 1.72 ERA as a reliever.
