Biography:
Selected by Diamondbacks in 24th round of 2001 draft; signed Aug. 28, 2001 Phil Avlas is probably the smartest catcher in the organization, and destined to one day coach, but he also happens to be the second best catcher in the system, and with some new found power, courtesy of 15 extra pounds put on during the last offseason, he projects as a very nice backup catcher in the bigs, good enough to handle a #1 starter, with enough bat to not be a black hole in the order.
