| Biography: |
| Matt Chico's story is pretty well documented, but it's worth telling again. Chico was a top prospect at USC, who didn't stick with the program, and was re-discovered playing in an amateur men's league. The Diamondbacks drafted him in the third round of the 2003 draft, and he dominated Short Season Yakima, then Lo-A South Bend, before the Diamondbacks decided to bump him up to Double-A El Paso in just his second year of pro ball. Chico struggled for the second half of the '04 season, but the Diamondbacks kept him in Double-A (this time at Tennessee) to start the '05 season, and things did not go well. Chico started '05 1-7 with an ERA approaching 6.00, but rebounded nicely, going 7-2 with a 3.76 ERA after moving back to Lancaster. After starting strong in Lancaster this season (a 3.75 ERA) he was moved up for this third go around in Tennessee and this time he's taking no prisoners, keeping pace with top lefty pitching prospect Greg Smith. |
