| Biography: |
| There was a time not too long ago when Jerry Gil was the Diamondbacks shortstop of the future, but like many highly touted minor leaguers 2004 meant a call up, and a step back. Now that the Diamondbacks have drafted Stephen Drew, and Justin Upton (though he has moved to center field) Gil has almost lost his shot at being anything but an exceptional defensive infielder. We say almost because in the last two seasons suddenly Gil has started to demonstrate some power (hitting 11 and 10 home runs in '04 and '05 respectively). Drew is the future at short for the Diamondbacks, but Gil could start to draw interest from other clubs if he continues to produce, and he's athletic enough to move to second or third base if the opportunity arose. |
