Biography:
Coming off a tremendous spring where Barden, who was an afterthought entering camp, nearly made the big league club, Barden is poised to be yet another utility man, but one with outstanding defense and an emerging bat. In camp this year he hit .319 with two homers and eight RBI, and it's the power numbers that really had the D'Backs brass salivating. Perhaps the only positions on the diamond where the organization does not have a highly rated future star are second and third base, and those happen to be the two positions where Barden has been most comfortable. On the list of utility players Barden currently ranks behind Andy Green and Craig Counsell (once Stephen Drew claims the shortstop job) but now that Alex Cintron is gone Barden has moved up at least one spot, and still ranks ahead of Robbie Hammock (at least until Hammock gets healthy).
