| Biography: |
| Possibly the best defensive catcher the Diamondbacks have ever had, Brito remains a vital cog in the Diamondbacks organization even as he is likely to spend the vast majority of the year, if not all of '06, in Triple-A. Why? Because at 28 years old he understands the game, knows what to expect and when, has the experience to get big league pitchers to listen ("Shut up, I caught Johnson and Schilling") and is a big league backstop on a club (Tucson) that will have a lot of big league pitchers on it this year. Problem is, he just can't hit a lick, and with younger backstops like Johnny Estrada, Chris Snyder, and if he clears waivers Koyie Hill ahead of him, only a rash of injuries is likely to get Brito back into the bigs with the D'Backs. That being said, he might be an attractive add-on to a trade later in the year. |
