| Biography: |
| The 24th round pick out of Kennedy High School in North Hills California, Avlas was drafted as a shortstop, and moved behind the plate one year later. His shortstop skills helped him gain a reputation as an above average defensive catcher, with a plus arm and great mechanics. The 2004 season was a breakout one for Avlas offensively as he hit .315 and was named to the 2004 California League All Star team. |
