| Son of former Major Leaguer Orlando Mercado, the youngster was signed by the Diamondbacks in the sixth round of the '03 draft, primarily for his high ceiling and low age. He spent the first two years of his Diamondbacks career at Yakima with the Bears of the Short Season A Northwest League. |
