The Missoula Osprey have announced that right-handed pitchers J.R. Bradley and Robby Rowland, the second- and third-round picks for the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2010 MLB Draft, will make their professional debuts on consecutive nights during the current Osprey homestand.
Bradley will start Tuesday night’s game against Great Falls, and Robby Rowland will get the call to start on Wednesday in the finale of the homestand, also against the Voyagers.
Bradley was part of a team at Nitro High School which went 120-24 in the past four seasons, including 33-4 in 2010 on their way to the West Virginia Class AAA State Championship. Bradley pitched in the title game, a 6-0 win over Bridgeport, capping off a 13-0 season on the mound, with a 0.61 ERA and 109 strikeouts in 69 1/3 innings pitched. Bradley also played shortstop in high school, and hit .483 with 13 home runs and 52 RBIs in his senior season. Bradley had signed a national letter of intent to pitch at North Carolina State, but opted to sign his professional baseball contract instead and reported to Missoula.
Robby Rowland is the brother of Osprey catcher Richie Rowland, and the son of former Major League catcher Rich Rowland, who played six Major League seasons in Detroit and Boston. The younger Rowland was dominant in his senior season at Cloverdale High School in California, posting a 0.32 ERA in 65 innings of work, including a stretch where he did not allow a run for 33 consecutive innings. Rowland pitched a perfect game and a no-hitter to his credit, and also had a multi-home run game, in which he hit a home run from both sides of the plate. The multi-sport athlete nearly played college basketball instead, finishing 28th on the California All-Time scoring list.
Tickets are going fast for all three games remaining on the homestand. Fans can purchase tickets for any Osprey home game this season by calling the Osprey at (406) 543-3300, stopping by the Osprey Team Store at 412 W. Alder, or ordering online at www.missoulaosprey.com.
