Gillespie, 25, was acquired along with Mercedes on July 19 from the Brewers in
exchange for Felipe Lopez. He hit a combined .273 this season, with 13 home runs and 63 RBI
between Single-A Brevard County (Brewers), Triple-A Nashville (Brewers), and Reno. Gillespie hit .304 with
five home runs, 27 RBI, and a .932 OPS for Reno. He also played in 20 games in the Arizona Fall League this season, hitting .333 (23-for-72) with a home run and
seven RBI. Over parts of four seasons in the minors, he has hit .283 with 47 home runs and 235 RBI in 440 games.
Mercedes, 23, went a combined 2-1 with seven saves and a 1.78 ERA (12 ER in 60.2 IP) over 44 relief appearances with Single-A Brevard County (Brewers) and Double-A Mobile this season. Over parts of
five minor league seasons, he has gone 21-22 with 10 saves and a 4.44 ERA in 130 games (53 starts).
Stange, 23, went 0-4 with 10 saves and a 4.88 ERA (28 ER in 51.2 IP) over 39 relief outings at Double-A Mobile this season. Over parts of
four seasons in the D-backs' farm system, he went 12-13 with 41 saves and a 3.93 ERA (73 ER in 167.1 IP) in 131 relief appearances.
Norberto, 22, went a combined 4-3 with 4 saves and a 3.82 ERA over 48 relief
appearances at Single-A Visalia and Double-A Mobile this season. Over parts of
six seasons in the D-backs' farm system, he went 26-23 with 4 saves and a 4.20
ERA in 134 games (70 starts).
All four players would have been elibible to be taken in the Rule 5
draft next month had they not been protected on the 40-man roster.
The D-backs also reinstated infielder Conor Jackson and right-handed pitchers Chad Qualls and Brandon Webb from the 60-day disabled list
to complete their roster of 40.
