T.J. Hose began the season in the South Bend Silver Hawks bullpen and quickly established himself as the team's primary closer before earning this promotion to Visalia. The right-hander pitched in 27 games for the Silver Hawks, compiling a 3-2 record, coverting 11 of 12 save opportunities, and notching a team-best 1.70 ERA. In 37.0 innings, Hose allowed 24 hits, while striking out 43 and walking only 12. Hose did not allowed a run in his last 11.1 innings and was a Midwest League All-Star this season.
Justin Mace will likely assume the closer's duties in South Bend. Mace is currently second on the team in saves with four and sports a 2.25 ERA in 36 innings.
Alfredo Marte was placed on the disabled list on July 14th with a strained left shoulder, and the move was made retroactive to July 11th. After missing just over a week of action, Marte will be active for tonight’s game and is in the starting lineup against the Burlington Bees. A highly-regarded outfield prospect from the Dominican Republic, Marte leads the team with 44 RBI this season. He is batting .264 with three home runs.
