Two More Silver Hawks Named as All-Stars

Beloit, WI – The Midwest League has announced that Silver Hawks outfielder Alfredo Marte and left-hander Bayron Zepeda have been added to the Eastern Division All-Star Roster. They have been added to take the place of injured players from other teams who will not be able to compete.

Alfredo Marte is batting .260 with two home runs and a team-leading 34 RBI. He was added in the place of Jaff Decker of Fort Wayne, who was placed on the disabled list today with a sore back.

Bayron Zepeda has a 1-2 record and a 3.91 ERA. He was the last Silver Hawks pitcher to allow a run in 2009, not allowing one until April 26th.

Marte and Zepeda will join RHP Ryan Cook, RHP T.J. Hose, and SS Reynaldo Navarro who were previously chosen to be on the team. OF Brendan Duffy was selected to start for the Eastern Division All-Stars, but has since been promoted to H-A Visalia and will not partake in the game on Tuesday.

Left-hander Taylor Sinclair was originally selected to be a replacement, but will be unable to attend. Zepeda was chosen in his place.  Sinclair was 2-2 with a stellar 3.34 ERA and a team-leading 53 strikeouts.

South Bend manager Mark Haley will be leading the Eastern Division based on the Silver Hawks being the Division Champs from 2008. Hitting coach Francisco Morales, pitching coach Erik Sabel, trainer Brian Czachowski, and strength coach Vaughn Robinson will round out the staff for the Eastern Division All-Stars.

The Midwest League All-Star game is being played at Alliant Energy Field in Clinton, Iowa on June 23rd. The field staff for the Clinton LumberKings will head up the Western Division All-Stars. Due to the unbalanced divisions, the Peoria Chiefs will play as part of the East All Stars to even the teams.
