Evan Frey Reassigned to Minors

The Arizona Diamondbacks announced Sunday that they have reassigned outfielder Evan Frey to minor league camp.

Evan Frey hit .255 (13-for-51) in 23 Cactus League games for the D-backs, scoring nine runs with six doubles, two triples, seven RBI, and a stolen base. He came into Sunday's game tied for seventh in the National League in doubles and tied for ninth in triples this spring.

"Take away the guys that are going to make the team, and he's been the most impressive guy in camp for me," D-backs manager Bob Melvin said. "He's got an understanding of the game well beyond a guy that has played in A ball. He just has a feel for how to play."

The club's 10th round pick out of Missouri in 2007, Frey batted .314 combined at South Bend and Visalia in his first full season. He ranked among the minor league leaders with 98 runs scored and 169 hits while finishing second in the D-backs system with 37 stolen bases, and is among the organization's best defensive outfielders. His 2008 performance earned him FutureBacks.com Position Player of the Year honors.

The D-backs now have 37 players in camp. The breakdown includes 17 pitchers (17 roster/0 non-roster); 4 catchers (3 roster/1 non-roster); 9 infielders (7 roster/2 non-roster) and 7 outfielders (4 roster/3 non-roster).
