Diamondbacks Promote Derrick Hall to CEO
Diamondbacks

Posted Jan 2, 2009

The Arizona Diamondbacks announced today that Derrick Hall was promoted to President and Chief Executive Officer after General Partner and Chief Executive Officer Jeff Moorad resigned from the organization, according to Managing General Partner Ken Kendrick.

"Derrick has clearly demonstrated the ability to run a successful organization in his tenure as President of the D-backs and was an easy choice to promote to Chief Executive Officer after accepting Jeff's resignation this morning," Kendrick said. "Jeff was an integral part of the D-backs' many achievements on and off of the field since joining the organization in 2004. However, it was necessary for him to tender his resignation with the organization as he pursues the acquisition of the San Diego Padres."

Hall took over the day-to-day lead of the organization as President on Sept. 6, 2006, after being promoted to Executive Vice President mid-way through the 2006 season. He originally joined the D-backs on May 23, 2005 as Senior Vice President, Communications and later took on various marketing-related responsibilities in December 2005 as Senior Vice President, Marketing and Communications.

"Jeff was a tremendous leader here, but we are excited about this opportunity for him," Hall said. "Under his leadership, the current management team was formed with a clear vision to bring a disciplined business approach to the organization, while committing to provide the fans with a winning team, a fan experience second to none, and the most affordable ticket pricing in all of baseball. That commitment will continue, as this talented group moves forward. I have overwhelming admiration and appreciation for our staff and for our fans and am thrilled and honored to have the added responsibility."

Prior to joining the D-backs, Hall made a brief stop as Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications for KB Home, a Fortune 500 company based in Los Angeles. Hall spent parts of 12 seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers, joining the organization's Single-A Florida State League affiliate in Vero Beach, Fla., in 1992 and departing as the club's Senior Vice President, Communications in 2004. In between, he was a strategic communications specialist that served key roles during three ownership changes with the Dodgers and was recognized for reuniting Fernando Valenzuela with the organization after hiring him as a color analyst for the team's Spanish radio broadcasts in 2003. Known as an industry-wide specialist in strategic communications, Hall spent a great deal of time on image building, media training, brand promoting, pro-active story pitching and crisis management, and taught a sports public relations class at the University of Southern California.

Hall has also been invaluable in the community re-establishing relationships with civic leaders and serving on the board of the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation, which raised more than $2.5 million in 2008 to be given back to non-profit organizations throughout Arizona and has donated a total of $14.5 million since its inception in 1997. He currently serves on more than 20 Board of Directors for non-profit organizations throughout Arizona.
