D-backs Outright Gonzalez and Brito

The Arizona Diamondbacks have outrighted the contracts of infielder/outfielder Javier Brito and right-handed pitcher Edgar Gonzalez, which removes the pair from the team's 40-man roster, as announced by D-backs Executive Vice President and General Manager Josh Byrnes.

Javier Brito hit a combined .248 (61-for-246) with 14 home runs and 50 RBI over 81 games for Tucson (AAA) and Mobile (AA). He has hit .305 (567-for-1859) with 61 home runs and 334 RBI in parts of seven seasons in the minors.

Edgar Gonzalez went 1-3 with a 6.00 ERA (32 ER in 48.0 IP) in 17 games (six starts) with the D-backs this season. He missed the club's final 82 games after being placed on the disabled list on June 28 with a right elbow strain. Gonzalez is 14-21 with a 5.97 ERA (171 ER in 257.2 IP) in 80 career games (35 starts) in parts of six major league seasons. He was signed by the D-backs as a non-drafted free agent on April 18, 2000.

As a result of these moves, both Brito and Gonzalez will be eligible for the Rule V draft this winter, assuming the pair remains off the 40-man roster on November 20.  The moves bring the D-backs 40-man roster to 34 players.
