FutureBacks Power Rankings: 2nd Half - Week 7

No position is more volatile on our Power Rankings then that of a relief pitcher. You see it all the time: established closers will have a month where they can't get anybody out (Mariano Rivera, April), and no-name middle men can step in and rack off a string of saves (Manny Corpas?). The Diamondbacks have a closer in their system who has been consistent all year, and he's moving up our rankings.

Reid Mahon wasn't installed as the Silver Hawks' primary closer until June.  In fact, entering this season, the Minnesota alum had pretty much flown underneath everyone's radar.  But this big right-hander saved 11 games with the Silver Hawks by limiting his ERA to 1.77.

Promoted to Visalia in July, Mahon has continued to dominate at a higher level.  He was immediately made closer upon his promotion, and has continued to keep his ERA below 2.00.

In other news, two Yakima Bears are batting over .400 this month, and find themselves climbing our list considerably as a result.  Remember, these rankings chronicle the hottest organizational prospects who are making the most of their opportunity, with the heaviest weight placed on the past week of play.

Note: Stats are accurate through Sunday, August 12th.
