Frank Curreri Finally Gets the Call

A 24-year old catcher stuck in a three-way platoon at low-A, Frank Curreri's prospects for moving up in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization did not look good. But the tall catcher got the majority of the at bats in South Bend and had a torrid first half of May, earning himself a promotion to Hi-A Visalia on Monday.

"I'm definitely the old man on this team," Curreri noted prior to his Monday callup.  Indeed he had been the oldest player on the Silver Hawks, about six months older than roommate and fellow catcher Richard Mercado. But Frank Curreri's lack of a callup up until now had nothing to do with a lack of hitting acumen.  The 6'4" catcher batted .285 with a .394 OBP for the Silver Hawks last year... Recommended Stories
