Mark Haley returns for his third season as manager of the Silver Hawks.
Pitchers Chase Christianson
and Ramon Sanchez will return to the mound at the Cove after brief stints there
at the end of last season. Frank Curreri, the recipient of the 2006 Paul DeGuch
Community Service Award, and Richard Mercado return as catchers, and should help
a young pitching staff adjust to a full professional season. Infielder Steve Mena also returns to the Silver Hawks this year. His versatility both on
defense and in speaking both Spanish and English should benefit the team
greatly.
Christianson, Brett Anderson,
Jason Neighborgall, and Mark Romanczuk comprise the highest draft selections
among Silver Hawks pitchers. On offense, Matt Oxendine, Brad Miller, and
Joey Side fit that category, with Gerardo Parra also a top prospect out of the
Dominican Republic.
This year's squad appears to have
more pop on offense without sacrificing much in the other aspects of the game.
While there won't be nearly as much hype around the team with Justin Upton
having been promoted to Hi-A, this Silver Hawks squadron should still win a lot
of games and display several top Diamondbacks prospects.
