Micah Owings overcame all nervousness in his dominating performance. He
now boasts an undefeated streak lasting 20 games, amounting to a 13-0 record
since May 26th, 2006. Felipe Lopez claimed the lone hit off Owings - a
solid single to right in the third inning - as opponents batted .063 against
Owings in the game.
The only red flags in a dominant performance by Micah Owings were three walks
and two hit batsmen in his five scoreless innings. He stranded six
Nationals on base - including leaving the bases loaded in the fifth - something
that might not happen against a team with a more potent lineup. That said,
Owings fanned Nats' bright spot Ryan Zimmerman on three pitches to end that
fifth inning.
Meanwhile, the Arizona Diamondbacks' offense clicked on all cylinders against
Jerome Williams and the Nationals' bullpen. A 9-hit, 7-run performance was
highlighted by a three-run homer by Chris Young in the 6th.
