Named the 13th best prospect of the Florida Marlins organization in the
Scout.com 2007 Prospect
Guide, Yusmeiro Petit originated from the New York Mets farm system.
Petit went to the Marlins along with Mike Jacobs in the Carlos Delgado deal.
Petit boasts a 29-12 record in 81 career minor league starts to go along with
a 3.09 ERA. He struggled as a reliever during two separate stints with the
Marlins last season.
Jorge Julio brings 99 career saves over to an inexperienced Marlins bullpen.
He will immediately step into the closer's role.
For the Diamondbacks, hard-throwing reliever Tony Pena becomes the primary
setup man for Jose Valverde in the pen. Pena would likely have the first
shot at the closer's role should Valverde falter the way he did last May.
The move also frees up another roster spot for another of the Diamondbacks'
young pitching prospects.
