One year ago today, the Diamondbacks' center field situation was a shambles. Their best options in the middle of the outfield included Shawn Green, who'd only had 32 career starts in CF, and those came all the way back in 1998, Quentin McCracken, still a plus fielder, but a guy who hadn't hit at all since 2002, and Luis Terrero, a prospect with purported tools who hadn't shown much in the majors defensively and absolutely nothing offensively but still got one last opportunity to prove himself.

Their minor league pantry was nearly empty as well, with only Marland Williams and Jarred Ball worth taking note of.  Even they were striking out too much to let anyone get too excited about them.    But this year, things are different.  Not only did they sign Eric Byrnes (who sadly, like Green and Cruz Jr. is not a natural CF either) to a stopgap one-year deal, but they've shored up the...
