Season Preview: The South Bend Silverhawks

Playing the Lo-A Midwest League is something most players don't want to do for long. A ‘stepping stone' league, and it's the first full season test for many players coming from short season teams like Missoula and Yakima. If you are a hitter, you can't wait to get to the hitter friendly Hi-A California League, and if you're a pitcher, you're hoping to go the Matt Chico route and skip Lancaster altogether and go straight to Tennessee. If you prove yourself here, your reward is a plane ticket.

There will be turnover again this season, because there are pitchers in particular who are looking to make the jump, but the South Bend Silverhawks will be an exciting team to watch under new Manager Mark Haley.   Mark Haley is the new skipper in South Bend, taking over for Tony Perezchica who guided the Silverhawks to a 77-63 record and first place finish in their division last season.  Haley...
