The Louisiana State University made the Elite Eight in the NCAA College World Series over the weekend, giving the Diamondbacks more time to watch Jonathan Zeringue perform at the college level, but ending the Texas A&M Aggies run and allowing the Diamondbacks the opportunity to start negotiations with 26th round pick Donald Schindewolf.
The CWS format calls for best of three series, but LSU (and D’Backs 2nd round draft pick) outfielder Zeringue went three for nine in the two game sweep over Texas A&M. Zeringue started both games, scoring a run in each and driving in a run in game one.
Schindewolf, a fantastic defensive 2nd baseman, was 0-3 in game one, but drew two walks and scored a run in the 11-8 loss on Friday.
While Zeringue moves on, Schindewolf will head west where the Diamondbacks will likely assaign him to Rookie ball in Missoula. Eventually the college foes will unite as teammates in the D’Backs minor leagues.
