The International team rosters for the World Baseball Classic were announced Thursday afternoon and eight more players from the Phillies organization will be playing this year. Plus, a host of former Phillies will also take part.

The biggest name from the Phillies to show up on an international team roster for the World Baseball Classic is catcher Carlos Ruiz.

Although Ruiz is not eligible to play for the first 25 games of the season for violating the MLB substance abuse policy, he is eligible to play in the WBC and is a member of the Team Panama roster.

Other current members of the Phillies 40-man roster to show up include Phillippe Aumont (Canada), Tyson Gillies (Canada) and J.C. Ramirez (Nicaragua). In addition, minor league players in the Phillies organization who will compete include Pete Orr (Canada), Rodrigo Lopez (Mexico), Tim Kennelly (Australia) and Aaron Altherr (Germany).

Kennelly is an interesting choice, since he was converted from an infielder to a pitcher just last season, but is listed on the Australia roster as a pitcher. Kennelly will be joined on the Team Australia roster by his younger brother Matt, who is a catcher in the Atlanta Braves organization.

It's also slightly interesting that Aumont accepted the invitation, since he'll be battling for a spot in the Phillies bullpen. Lopez is also thought to be battling for a spot on the staff, although his odds are much longer than those of Aumont.

A bunch of players who were formerly in the Phillies organization will also take part in the WBC. Those players include: Mike Cervenak (Czech Republic), Jason Grilli (Italy), Nick Punto (Italy), Rod Barajas (Mexico), J.C. Romero (Puerto Rico) and Nelson Figueroa (Puerto Rico).

The WBC begins March 2nd with play in Pools A and B, while Pools C and D will start play March 7th. The U.S. is in Pool D, along with Mexico, Italy and Canada. The championship will be played at AT&T Park in San Francisco on March 19.
