Aces Make It 6 Straight; Take 1st Place

Zach Kroenke gave the Reno Aces exactly what they needed after the longest game in franchise history. Following Tuesday night's marathon, Kroenke went 7.2 innings to lead the Aces to an 8-3 victory over Memphis to pull Reno into first place.

Josh Bell homered and drove in five runs Wednesday afternoon, lifting the Reno Aces to an 8-3 victory over the Memphis Redbirds at AutoZone Park.

Bell hit a three-run home run in the first inning, and the Aces never looked back, winning their sixth-straight game and 11th over the last 14 contests. With the victory, Reno moved into first place in the Pacific North Division.

Aces starter Zach Kroenke (3-1) exited with two outs in the eighth inning, having scattered two runs on seven hits with a walk and a strikeout. Sam Demel recorded the game's final four outs to collect the save and preserve the victory.

Kroenke's deep start was timely for Reno, who was coming off the longest game in franchise history the night before.  The 13-inning affair that Reno won with a Ryan Wheeler single lasted four hours and 59 minutes.

At the dish for Reno, Bell led the way with three hits, a run scored and his second 5-RBI game of the season. Jake Elmore drove in two runs, Cole Gillespie added two hits, and Adam Eaton scored three runs for the Aces.

Three Aces

  • Bell's .406 batting average would lead the PCL had he the at-bats to qualify
  • Eaton's .376 mark leads the PCL among active qualifiers
  • Elmore's .452 OBP leads the PCL among active qualifiers
