Diamondbacks pitching coordinator Jeff Pico and pitching coaches Gil Heredia (Missoula) and Doug Drabek (Yakima) will have plenty of talent to oversee for the next three weeks.  Certainly the biggest name amongst that talent is Jarrod Parker, who is about one year removed from Tommy John surgery.  Parker had hoped to get a few relief outings under his belt in August and there was widespread speculation that the phenom would pitch in the Arizona Fall League, but  the D-backs preferred to have him in a less competitive situation in which his innings could be regulated by them, rather than a manager from another organization.

This will be Parker's third stint in the Instructional League, joining Enrique Burgos and Miles Reagan as the only three-year Instructs veterans on the roster.  While Parker's inclusion is due to his injury, Burgos and Reagan  keep getting the call due to their enormous talent that has so far gone unrealized for the most part.  It says something positive about the organization's faith in those two that they keep sending them to the Instructional League.

Tyler Skaggs and David Holmberg have already impressed since being acquired in trades this July, and will have the opportunity to fine-tune some things under the eyes of some of the organization's foremost authorities on pitching.  J.R. Bradley, Robby Rowland, Kevin Munson, Blake Perry, Jeff Shields, and Tyler Green are no surprises on the roster, as they comprise six of the top seven D-backs selections from the 2010 draft who signed.  What does come as a surprise is that Victor Lara, taken in the 34th round, made the roster over Cody Wheeler (5th), particularly given Lara's 8.02 ERA in 17 games.  The D-backs obviously saw some positives in Lara despite his rough season.

The Dominican Summer League representatives this season are Juan Falcon and Francisco Guzman.  Falcon has good stuff, but extreme control issues (21 BB in 24 IP) that he will be working on these coming weeks.  Guzman generates a lot of excitement as a 6-foot-5 southpaw, and justified that excitement this season by completing two games and posting a 2.77 ERA.
